12/23/2006 POPA WOODY'S "BEST SENSE OF HUMOR IN A PHD CANDIDIATE" AWARD One lesson Popa Woody has learned from our favorite bluesman is "You gotta have a sense of humor!" It seems to your correspondent that, if you're going to dedicate the incredible amount of time and energy necessary to get a PhD, a sense of humor is especially critical. Yet how often do you hear about a PhD candidate being a really "funny guy"? As 2006 draws to a close, Popa Woody would like to put forward a chap named Jimmy Or, at Waseda University in Tokyo, for critical recognition on the humor front. You may wonder what it takes to get on PW's humor radar. Why nothing less than a real "Belly Dancing Robot", of course. According to news reports, "She can shimmy, she can roll, she can backbend. She even sports a teasing, low-slung skirt around her waist." You go, Jimmy! More details here and here .

12/22/2006 A NEW LUCILLE'S! Our favorite bluesman christens a brand new Lucille's Smoke House tomorrow (12/23). The new location is in Lake Forest, California (on El Toro, just east of the 5 freeway). We encourage fans of good blues and good barbeque to stop by for some holiday cheer.

12/17/2006 FIND A STORY, WIN $100! We mentioned here a few weeks back that there's some SECRET content on the new Captured Alive DVD. If you find it, you could win $100. Check out the contest information and rules here.

12/16/2006 NEW SONGS If you've seen Doug perform recently, you know he's been writing a lot of late. It's great fun to hear great new blues in the making from our favorite bluesman. Also fun is watching Denny, Debra and Dave playing the new stuff live without rehearsal (or charts). Just happens... like magic. You guys are pretty durned amazing, if you ask us.

12/15/2006 THE WINTER HOLIDAY GIFT GIVING SEASON ! As we're getting well into the middle of this holiday season, we'd like to pass on this sweet little Flash movie sent along to us by one the the founding DubbHeads, Teddy. Thanks Teddy! May all of you DubbHeads have the very best of holiday seasons.

12/11/2006 YEP, THAT WAS DEBRA ! Popa Woody would like to extend his heartfelt apology to Debra Dobkin for gettin' his wires crossed on the "Who the heck is drummin' with Dubb tonight?" question. It seems our favorite bluesman did send ol' Popa an email, but I expect his spectacles were dirty. Debra turned in a knockout performance at Cafe Boogaloo last night. Here's an inside tip: Debra will be joining Dubb and Denny at Boogaloo this Sunday (12/18) too! Also... Popa Woody would like to extend his heartfelt apology to Debra Dobkin for attempting to kill her with 800 pounds of cake. Doug and the Doola Devils made it one heck of a party and yes, we had plenty of cake and a very mean Single Malt called Imperial!
line
12/1/2006 DENNY IS IN DA HOUSE! A reminder - Denny is joining his sweetie Lawrence (Don't call her Larry) Lebo opening for Dirk Hamilton at McCabes Guitar Shop tomorrow evening 12/2 at 8PM. Tickets are a bargain at $13.50. Call McCabes at (310) 828-4497. Should be a fun show!

11/29/2006 A NOTE FROM DUBB Our favorite bluesman has passed along this message from the Austrian hinterlands:

To all The Dubbheads,
I just want to extend my thanks to you all concerning the passing of my mother. I thank you for all the good thoughts I felt, and the personal condolences that many of you extended to me during the concerts. Your positive thoughts went a long long way to making it easier while on tour. I was thinking on the train from Arhnem to Vienna that the Dubbheads are a pretty darn good bunch of folks.
Now that can put you on to some good wonderment.
Here´s to more wonderment.

11/27/2006 LET'S PARTY!!! The Dubb-drought is almost over for us here in the States. Doug has left Holland on his way to Austria and, any minute now, The U.S. of A! It occurs to us that, by the time Doug and gang first appear at Cafe Boogaloo on the 10th, it will have been two weeks since Thanksgiving and two weeks to go until Christmas. That sounds like the perfect excuse for a PARTY to us!! Join us at Cafe Boogaloo on Sunday December 10th for a "Welcome Home Dubb" party. RSVP to popawoody (at) dubbheads.com by 12/5 if you'd like to reserve space at a table.

11/21/2006 EASTER EGG FOR THANKSGIVING Now that the Captured Alive DVD is actually available for sale on Amazon.com (a grueling experience, by the way), it's time to let you DubbHeads in on a little secret. The DVD contains some "secret" content. This is called an "Easter Egg" in the business. Hunt around for it. More clues here over the next few weeks.

11/19/2006 SAD NEWS We got word today that Doug's mom passed away this past Friday. Doug has asked that we refrain from sending cards and email and concentrate instead on sending good thoughts. You have those, plus our love my friend.
line
11/19/2006 BLUES CRUISE NEWS Doug has been booked on the October 2007 Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise. The cruise leaves San Diego on October 13th and returns on the 20th. If it seems like we're announcing this rather early, then you haven't tried to book a cabin on one of these things. They sell out FAST. More details are available here. We're looking into the possibility of doing a DubbHeads event on this one. More here as we know more.
line
11/10/2006 SAD NEWS Doug is in Holland, having taken Finland and the Czech Republic by storm. That's the good news. The sad news is that Doug's mom is gravely ill. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and with Doug, Patti Joy and the entire family MacLeod.
line
11/10/2006 DAVE AT BOOGALOO TONIGHT Popa Woody received a note from Dave Kida today. He's at the Boogaloo tonight with The Mighty Flyers. Sounds like the place to be. 9:30 'til it ends.
line
11/03/2006 FINISHED WITH FINNISH In an urgent comminuqué from Finland, Dubb passes along the following – "Perrti tells me your Finnish stinks like fresh you know what and he thinks you should be finished with Finnish." Sounds like good advise. The MacLeod tour moves on to the Czech Republic on Monday. Stay tuned right here for Prague weather highlights. We're sure it will be sweltering. Think "the Miami of Eastern Europe." The forecast calls for a high of 83F in Lomita on Monday, by the way.
line
11/03/2006 DELTA BLUES... FROM SWEDEN Honest! While we were posting some of Doug's video on YouTube, we ran across a fan of Doug's named Johan Eliasson. It turns out Johan (aka "Bottleneck John") is quite a bottleneck player in his own right. Give him a listen at JohanElliasson.com.
line
11/02/2006 DOUG ON ICE Dubbheads received a note from Pertti Numri in Finland today. Pertti is Managing Editor of (and photographer for) Blues News Magazine, published by the Finnish Blues Society. Pertti explains for us in a brief photo essay, just how much fun our favorite bluesman is having in the Frigid North. Click on the image on the right to share in the fun. Warning, put on a parka first!

For us DubbHeads living in Southern California, we offer this guide to understanding cold weather.

line10/29/2006 SE ON JÄÄHTYNYT KUIN KUMMUTA KAIVUKONE ELIITTI As Popa Woody's grand-pappy used to say, "It's colder than a well digger's pick" over there in Finland right now. (Our apologies to our Finlandish friends for what is surely a laughable translation). We got a note from Doug this morning. As he tells it, "it's f&&%&€%#%%€ cold over here!" The Helsinki forecast for the coming week: Monday Hi 35F, Lo 26F, 90% chance of freezing rain; Tuesday Hi 37F, Lo 32F, 60% chance of near-freezing rain; Wednesday Hi 37F, Lo 24F, 50% chance of freezing rain; Thursday Hi 26F, Lo 17F, 70% chance of snow. We hope our favorite bluesman brought his long undies. Doug, remember you can always check the weather in Lomita by clicking here.

10/28/2006 XM-4 – "BLUES" AND THE BLUES Rocket science being the complicated endeavor that it is, the folks at Sea Launch ran into some "blues" of their own on Tuesday. The XM Radio XM-4 satellite launch was scrubbed due to "off-nominal data from some automated launch support equipment". We suspect one of their Windows computers tossed up a "blue screen of death" at an inappropriate moment. This American-Russian team is determined however. They'll be giving it another go on Monday October 30th at 3:49 PM Pacific time. Good luck (and udachi), guys. You can watch the fun here.

10/27/2006 CARDINALS WIN WORLD SERIES!!! Those of you who know our favorite bluesman know that he's a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. He'd probably tell you that it has been a tough road to hoe, considering the tile has eluded the Red Birds since 1982. Pitcher Jeff Weaver led the Cards to a 4 - 2 victory over Detroit, giving St. Louis their fourth game of a five game series. Congrats Dubb!!!
line

10/24/2006 XM-4 – "BLUES" DubbHeads co-founder and resident rocket scientist Dr. Groove brings to our attention the fact that our friends at XM Radio are about to toss another bird into space. XM-4, the fourth satellite for XM, is named, appropriately enough, "Blues". It will be launched on Thursday October 26th (4PM Pacific) by Boeing partnership Sea Launch Company, LLC. You can read all about it and even watch live video of the launch on the Sea Launch website. Hey, it's something to do to keep from thinking about the fact that Dubb will be in Europe for SIX WEEKS!.

And while we're on the topic of XM Radio, remember you can request Doug MacLeod songs on XM-74 Bluesville by clicking on this link. You can request other artists too, but only after you've already requested one from Doug. That's the rule. Honest.

10/23/2006 BOOGALOO! It was a terrific night at the Boogaloo last night – a combined Bon Voyage party for Dubb and surprise birthday bash for Dave. Dave finally turned old enough to have sex without someone going to jail and we tried desperately to entice Doug to cancel his tour and play the next six weeks in the South Bay. We even tried cake. With extra layers of fudge frosting. Sadly, Europe beckons. But a great time was had by all in any case. If you look carefully at the picture on the right you'll see Spook, Doug's new single cone National. If you click on it, you'll probably get a better view.

10/22/2006 BOOGALOO! Tonight is Doug's last US performance 'til December. Denny and Dave are joining our favorite bluesman at the Boogaloo. There are exciting festivities afoot. Don't miss this one!!! Next week Doug joins our Finlandish DubbHead friends in Rauma, Jyvaskyla and Helsinki.
line
10/21/2006 YOUTUBE As all loyal DubbHeads know, the "raison d' etre" of DubbHeads.com is to expose our favorite bluesman to a wider audience. In keeping with that goal, we've posted some of the Dubbeads video footage up on YouTube. Check out this link. And, lest we be accused of forgetting to repeat our mantra – "Vote for Dubb!!" On YouTube, a video's visibility is determined by the number of people who rate it highly and link to it. So, the more people who see it, the more people will see it.
line
10/20/2006 LUCILLES! OK. We promise this will be the last schedule correction this year. Somehow we missed a Lucille's date tonight. Looks like Popa Woody is gettin' senile or somethin'. So here's the scoop: Doug and Denny will be at Lucille's in Long Beach tonight, usual time, 7PM - 11PM. Be there or be someplace else. Reminder: This is the last Lucille's date before Doug's October European tour. His last date in the States will be on Sunday at the Boogaloo. DubbHeads is throwing a "Kiss Doug Goodbye" party. Show up, get some cake, and we promise you'll get to kiss someone.
line
10/14/2006 NEW STORIES Two more great stories have turned up in Doug's Attic. "Walking Tall" and "Clay and the Car" were first published in Doug's monthly "Doug's Back Porch" column in Blues Revue Magazine. They're provided to DubbHeads by Rufus the Blues Dog.
line
10/13/2006 SPOOK! Doug debuted his brand new single cone National at Lucille's tonight. Amazing harmonics on this guitar... and Doug played the heck out of it. And, oh yes, it's called "Spook".
line
10/13/2006 SCHEDULE CORRECTION! "We got confusement!" It looks like the time originally posted here and on the Blusapalooza web site was incorrect. Doug will be playing at The Fret House at 6:00PM on Saturday, October 14th. There'll be plenty to see if you get there at 1:00PM... but Doug is definitely planning on playing at 6.
line
10/11/2006 SCHEDULE CORRECTION! Hey everyone, please be advised that Doug and Denny are at Lucille's in Long Beach tomorrow night, Friday 10/13. The tour dates pages on both DubbHeads and Doug-MacLeod.com originally had the date listed as Lucille's in Brea. Sorry for any confusion.
line
10/1/2006 CAPTURED ALIVE! Doug, Denny and Debra played two smashing sets at Café Boogaloo tonight as the DubbHeads celebrated the official release of the first DubbHeads "unofficial" Doug MacLeod DVD, Captured Alive. To find out what all of this "Doug Live" excitement is all about, take a look at this preview.

9/22/2006 BLUESVILLE Bill Wax, the proprietor of Low Fi's Bar and Pool Hall located in Bluesville on XM Satellite Radio 74, was kind enough to send us tapes of Doug's interview on September 5th. Part 1 of this two part series is now available in Doug's Attic. Thanks again, Bill, for making this happen. Bill puts together what is, without doubt, the best Blues programming on the air today. If you aren't currently an XM subscriber, Bluesville should convince you. And remember, you can request a song on Bluesville by clicking on this link. Let's let Bill Wax know that the DubbHeads support him... and that we want to hear more Dubb!!

9/2/2006 NEW AT THE BOOGALOO Our favorite bluesman has a talent for attracting the best musicians in the business to play with him. Loyal DubbHeads have gotten to know two fantastic drummers over the past few years in Steve and Dave. Last night we got to meet another fabulous percussionist... and she's a girl! Debra Dobkin joined Doug and Denny at Café Boogaloo last night and everyone who was there agrees, Debra makes a fine addition to the Doola Devils. Debra has played with, well, just about everyone. Check out her web site here. She'll be appearing with Doug again at the Boogaloo on September 17. Come by and give Debra a warm DubbHeads welcome!

9/1/2006 CAPTURED ALIVE! Post production work on the DubbHeads' first limited-release DVD is complete!!! The disc will be called "Captured Alive" and should be available about the first of October. It contains segments from Doug's June 24th performance at The Fret House as well as some great stuff from the DubbHeads party. And some surprises. More here as we know more.line
8/26/2006 MORE VIDEO Some time back ol' Dubb retained your DubbHeads webmaster to put together a new press kit. We're pleased to announce that the press kit is complete. It is being distributed to industry professionals in DVD form. Us mere mortals can check it out at presskit.doug-macleod.com. Be sure to check out the video section. line
8/15/2006 WE HAVE VIDEO! We've had a chance to review some of the video from the party. We think everyone will be very pleased. At least some of the DubbHeads Party video will make onto the first DubbHeads DVD, which is due very soon. line
8/6//2006 THEY CAME, THEY HEARD... Well the First Annual Dubbheads Blues Picnic happened at Casa de Groove yesterday and I must say it was a smashing success. Doug, Denny and Steve were at the top of their game, the barbeque was to die for (as was the four-tomato salad) and,I'm told, a great time was had by all. Our only regret was that we had to limit attendance due to concerns of the local fire marshals. Never fear though, we're already planning the next gig at a larger venue. Thanks to everyone who shared the evening with us... and a special thanks to Dr. Groove for making this one happen. line

7/21/2006 VIDEO SNEAK PEEK As many of you know, one of the challenges we've been grappling with is: "How do we expose a wider audience to the 'Dubb live' experience?" The obvious solution is to try to capture some of the magic on video. To that end, DubbHeads has recently produced video shoots at Café Boogaloo and The Fret House. We've had opportunity to review a bit of the results and it's only appropriate that we Sneak Peek the results here first. Click on the picture to see a brief snippet from The Fret House. More information about Doug on video here soon.

7/18/2006 PARTY!!! If you're a fan of Doug MacLeod, you're invited to a PARTY!!! The First Annual DubbHeads Blues Picnic happens on Saturday, August 5th in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Click on the flyer at the left for more details. Doug, Denny and Steve will be playing from 4 'till 9. It's the BIG EVENT of the summer. Send an email to "party AT dubbheads.com" for an invitation and directions.

7/2/2006 THE GIG HARBOR GIG The folks at The Blues Foundation are throwing a Blues Foundation "members only" benefit in Gig Harbor, Washington on August 20th. Doug MacLeod and Eden Brent will be headlining. For more info see this page on the Blues.org web site or see the DubbHeads dates page. line
7/1/006 LUCILLES Well we admit that this is hardly breaking news... but we saw Doug at Lucille's in Long Beach last night. Impossible as it is to believe, he was actually better than he was last week at The Fret House... a pretty incomprehensible thought. In a candid conversation about the subject, Doug admitted that he's been working hard to achieve what he called "the next plateau". Hey man, whatever it is you're doin', it's workin'! line
6/24/2006 WERE YOU AT THE FRET HOUSE? Seeing Doug in a concert venue is a genuine treat. We hope Doug does more of these kinds of bookings. His true genius as an entertainer really shines in a venue where everyone is there for the music. If you missed it, there's good news. We were able to capture some great video which will be available to DubbHeads and the general public soon. More on this on these pages as it comes together.line
6/23/2006 THE FRET HOUSE ! Doug will be appearing at The Fret House in Covina tomorrow night, Saturday June 24th. This will be a solo concert appearance – a rare opportunity for us SoCal DubbHeads. This is a chance to see Doug as the Europeans get to see him, without all of the bar room chatter. Tickets are only $15 through the Fret House concerts web page or by calling 1-800-238-3738. While a few DubbHeads will be off at Monterey Bay Blues Festival this weekend, many of us will be in Covina hearing our favorite bluesman. In fact we'll be capturing the event on video for future podcast. There are still tickets left. Be there! line
6/23/2006 BLUESVILLE! So there's this fellow named Bill Wax who has a terrific Blues channel on XM satellite radio called Bluesville. If you're an XM subscriber you can hear a live internet stream here. If not, and you're a DubbHead, this channel may be reason to sign up. Bluesville, on XM 74, is 24X7 Blues and that kind of programming is just what Dr. Groove ordered. Bill Wax found the Blues in the '70s so this is the real deal. Why are we talking about it in DubbHeads News? Well because it involves Doug MacLeod, of course. WHERE I BEEN is on Bluesville's "Picks to Click" this week at number 14. You can request a song on Bluesville by clicking on this link. Let's let Bill Wax know we support him... and that we want to hear more Dubb!! If all of us do one request a day, Doug will be number one in no time!line
6/12/2006 BOOGALOO PODCAST! DubbHeads overwhelmed the Café Boogaloo last night with a video session for Doug's first podcast. It was a bog volleyball weekend in Hermosa Beach and the Boogaloo was one crowded, rockin' place, thanks to the incredible talent and energy of Doug and the Doola Devils. It was a terrific night and we got a lot of good audio and video of the "Doug Live" experience. We'll let every know as the podcast goes to "air". There's going to be a fair amount of post production to do on this first one so we expecting it to be a few weeks. Thanks to Steve, Christina, Kat and and the whole gang at the Boogaloo and to Jan at Black and Tan for making this happen. And, of course, thanks to Doug, Denny and Dave for having way too much talent.line

6/4/2006 ROCKIN' THE BOOGALOO! Doug attacked the Boogaloo tonight with the mighty blues army of Denny Croy and Dave Kida. By the end of the night, nobody was left standing! The Doola Devils brought in reinforcements in the person of Nathan James who, as Doug points out, is "the real deal. He plays like he learned it from the old guys." As a special treat we got to hear Doug wail on Harp while Nathan let loose on the Mule. These guys took no prisoners! A GREAT "welcome home" night at the Boogaloo!
line5/28/2006 HE'S BACK! Dr. Groove and Popa Woody and friends caught up with our favorite bluesman at Iva Lee's last night. We frankly don't understand how the man can be THAT good! Welcome home, Doug! line
5/27/2006 JANIVA ROCKS! Janiva Magness played a few sets at Lucille's last night. She won this year's WC Handy "Contemporary Female Artist of the Year" award and THIS WC Handy we definitely agree with. Janiva was smokin' last night. As a special treat she had Junior Watson with her on guitar. Man that cat can play! Congratulations on the WC Handy award Janiva! line
5/11/2006 BLUES MUSIC AWARDS The votes were announced last night and it turns out that 2006 won't be WC Handy Year for Doug. While it is difficult not to be disappointed (and more than a little confused), 2006 has still been a terrific year for our favorite bluesman and there's no indication things are slowing down any. WHERE I BEEN is a stunning piece of work which will no doubt attract some nominations in the next round. Congratulations to all of the winners. Doug - you're OUR Artist of the Year!line
5/7/2006 NATIONAL GUITARS Doug is the Featured Artist on the National Guitars web site. As DieHard DubbHeads know, Doug is a spokesman for National Resophonic Guitars and Taylor Guitars. Check out National's tribute to our favorite bluesman. line
4/21/2006 HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUBB!!!line
4/21/2006 DUBB INTERVIEW So there's a gent in the UK named Dave Raven. Dave is a Dj with a great blues show called The Raven 'n' the Blues on BFBS Radio 2 in the UK. The show is broadcast throughout Europe and the Middle East and is available as a stream and Podcast. Dave has just interviewed our favorite bluesman and has been kind enough to give DubbHeads first listen. You can hear the interview here. We'll post it up in Doug's Attic shortly.
